Hello Friends!
Welcome to our first post! I’m so excited to finally be starting this next adventure in my life. Alex and I have talked about starting a blog for a long time. OK, I’ve talked about starting a blog for a long time and Alex pretended to listen. I discussed a little of our history and interests in our About page so check that out if you’d like more info.
You may be wondering why we’re starting this blog and how we got here. I bought my first house in 2011 but I was also attending grad school full-time and working full-time. Because everyone buys their first house and schedules the closing for the week before finals, right? Those early days were hectic and we barely had enough time to make some minor improvements before we moved in. Alex and I painted the upstairs bedrooms and had new carpeting put in. For the next two years while I was finishing school that was pretty much the sum total of changes I made.
The History
When I was looking for houses, I didn’t really have a specific idea in mind of what I was looking for. I wanted something a little older that needed some love but not too much love. Alex had no such requirements and just wanted me to find SOMETHING so I could stop obsessing about it. As soon as I walked into my current house I knew it was the one. Alex told me later that during our second walk through she told the realtor “she’s going to buy this house”. She knows me so well…awwww.
The house had exactly what I was looking for – charm for days, a recently updated downstairs, an untouched upstairs and almost endless potential. Here’s what she looked like during that first winter we lived here. Forgive me for the TERRIBLE picture. It didn’t even occur to me that I might need better photos at that stage in the game!
Adventure is Out There
Alex had moved out by the time I finished school and I finally had time to start thinking about what to do with the house. I was greener than green in terms of skills and experience. What I lacked in the knowledge I made up for in enthusiasm. So began my next type of education into DIY, decorating and all things home-related. Over the last 3 years, I’ve been slowly making this house into my home. I’ve had some successes and just some plain old-fashioned failures…whomp, whomp.
Most of the projects I undertake I do solo. Alex would much rather be making pillows, art or something crafty. She’s also been known to offer an opinion or two. Or fifty. That’s not to say we don’t have adventures together. Just yesterday we were at the ReStore trying to fit two cabinets into my Camaro. She wanted to come back for them but I knew if I thought about it hard enough, I’d figure out a way to get them in there. Flash forward to the end of the story – Alex is crammed in what passes for the backseat with the smaller cabinet and the bigger one is in the front seat with the back tilted all the way back. I have big plans for those cabinets and can’t wait to share the final result with you!
The Future is Bright
Let’s wrap this up with a heartfelt thank you! Thanks for finding us and taking the time to visit. Here’s to much more!
And if you’re wondering why I do some of the things I do, just look at this face and tell me you could say no to it:
