Happy Just Because Day! Woo hoo! Party hats and balloon animals for everyone!
Have you ever been bored and online and wonder what National Days fall on your birthday? No? Just me? Huh. Well, spoiler alert, my birthday is September 14 but it’s also….National Creme Filled Doughnut Day. The stars and planets must have aligned on the day of my birth because that, my friends, is no coincidence. I also realized that there is a National Day of some kind (sometimes many kinds) every single day of the year. We’re going to start acknowledging and honoring these special days because if we’re honest, there’s precious little to celebrate lately. Please follow us on Instagram @sharonplusalex because that’s where I’ll be sharing these each day starting tomorrow.
First up is National Just Because Day. The history of this holiday is thin. Joseph Goodwin seems to have started it as a family holiday in the 1950’s. I did find a comment from someone claiming to be Joseph’s child who said the day was about celebrating life, free afternoons and family. Now it’s a full-blown national holiday symbolizing a break from the everyday routines of life.
Every other day, we’re forced to behave in ways that are required or expected of us. Showing up to work on time, not flipping the bird if someone cuts me off in traffic, wearing pants if I’m in the yard. Blah, blah, blah. On Just Because Day, all of that is out the window! Today I can proudly open my sunroof and point my middle finger skywards. OK, maybe I didn’t go prancing around in the yard pantless today but I could have if I’d wanted to. I did not show up to work on time either. Granted, it’s Sunday but what’s important here is the intention.
Did anyone else celebrate National Just Because Day? Let us know in the comments! And remember to follow us on Instagram so you don’t miss out on all this fun!
